Local fencer representing the USA at the 2023 Veteran Fencing World Championships

North Royalton, Ohio, is proudly sending one of its own to the international stage of fencing. Michelle Schultz, a dedicated athlete and local resident of North Royalton, has secured her spot at the 2023 Veteran Fencing World Championships, scheduled to take place in Daytona Beach, Florida, from October 11th to 16th.

In her debut year competing in the Veteran 50 Women's Epee category, Michelle qualified for the Veteran World Championships by medaling in two out of three highly competitive North American Cups competitions held during the 2022-2023 fencing season.

Fencing, a sport steeped in tradition, offers three distinct weapon categories, each with its unique set of rules and challenges. Michelle specializes in epee, a discipline known for its straightforward rules but considered one of the most demanding due to the target area encompassing the entire body.

Michelle's fencing journey began during her college years at Ohio State University, where she discovered her passion for this sport. Today, she continues to pursue her love for fencing at Hooked on Fencing, a well-respected fencing club located in North Royalton, Ohio.

Her event is scheduled for Sunday, October 15th, starting at 8:30am.
