2018/19 Season Begins

As of August 1st, the 18/19 season is officially underway. For our members, this means three main things. First, if you haven't already, you must renew or update your US Fencing membership. A non-competitive membership is the minimum requirement to fence at a USFA member club (like HoF), and a competitive membership is required to participate in tournaments.

Second, age groups shift every season, which means it is time for several of our members to change their practice hours and join their new age group. Fencers born in 2005 and earlier should be coming at 6:00pm during the week, and 11:00am on Saturdays. Fencers born in 2009 should begin joining the 9-12 age group at 5:00pm during the week.

Third, the new season comes with new opportunities to compete. If you want to truly improve as a fencer, there is no substitute for competing as often as possible. Tournaments are not some kind of final exam for fencers who have completely mastered the sport; they are a vital part of the training process! Which brings us to...

Upcoming Tournaments

I've put together a list of some tournament opportunities through the remainder of 2018. However, I also encourage every member to scout out events for themselves, by checking askFRED and USFencing . New tournaments are posted frequently. Here is handy reference as to which fencers are eligible for which events. Consider some of these events:

Cedar Point Trip

Our annual Cedar Point trip will be September 8th. All HoF members are welcome to meet us at Cedar Point OR meet at HoF at 11:00am on that day, and leave as a group by 11:30. Fencers 13 and up are welcome to carpool from the club by themselves. Younger fencers should come with parents. There is a sign-up sheet at the HoF if you plan to catch a ride. If any parents would like to provide extra transportation, you can sign up here as well! As a result of the Cedar Point trip, HoF will be closed at 11:00am on Saturday, September 8th!
