Rules Class

On Saturday, September 2nd, we will be holding a free rules seminar in the afternoon, in preparation for the new fencing season. If you are a fencer or parent who is newer to competition, or if you'd just like to brush up on your knowledge of the rules, this is a good opportunity for you. We will discuss penalties, rights of the fencer, and some of the most important calls referees make. All fencers and parents are welcome. There is no need to sign up. Feel free to bring questions about the sport. This event will begin at 1:00pm. See you there!

Cedar Point Trip

Our annual Cedar Point trip will take place this year on Saturday, September 30th, during Halloweekends at the park. We will meet at Hooked on Fencing and carpool to Cedar Point, before returning to the club later that night. All of our fencers age 13 and up are invited to join us for another fun trip! Younger fencers are welcome to meet us at Cedar Point if they come with parents. We will leave from Hooked on Fencing at 11am that Saturday. There will be a sign up at the club to let us know you are interested!

Upcoming Tournaments and Youth Tournaments

Tournaments are an important part of one's development as a fencer. They are also one of the most fun and rewarding parts of the sport! If you are a competitive fencer, and are seeking to improve, it is imperative to seek out as many opportunities to compete as possible. To that end, we try to keep our fencers well-informed about upcoming events. HOWEVER, for our older and more experienced fencers, it is primarily your responsibility to browse AskFRED and USFencing and find good tournaments to attend. You can also find a running list of some upcoming tournaments on the left-hand side of these emails. Take control of your competitive schedule this season!

Many of our youth fencers are new to that process this year, so I have assembled a list of decent Youth tournaments running through the end of 2017. This list includes 5 events to sign up for, and most feature the full set of Y10, Y12, and Y14 events. Put these on your calendars:

The Battle of Columbus -- September 23rd Escrime D'Halloween -- October 21st 2017 Blue Box Open -- November 19th Ronald Weaver Youth Cup -- November 26th 10th Annual Winter Warlock -- December 9th

We will hopefully attend all of these events to coach our fencers. As always, if you have any questions, feel free to email or ask us at the club!
