National Championships
National Championships are over and if you haven't follow them on Face Book, here are the results in a nut shell First a big congratulations to Courtney Dumas for WINNING Div 1 A, Courtney Dumas Div1A Women's Epee National Champion, our other medalist was Meghan O'Reilly 7th place in Div 3 Women's Epee, well done ladies !!
A big thank you to Johnny Ana, Nick Arlington, Matt Bogard, and Jim Fazekas for going down to Columbus on their own time to Coach our fencers. Thanks guys !! We had over 40 entries in the 10 days of Championship, now that the Championships are over I have been asked many times What do I do now? and why didn't I get the results I wanted.
The answer to both "The answer is on the strip"
The time to train for next years nationals and next season is now. We have choices to make, do I fence or go to the movies? Do I do footwork at home? Do I go for a run every other day? Have I been coming to practice as much as I should?
As coach the first thing I look at is attendance, attendance has been poor, once a week or an average of just less then 2 times per week isn't the kind of numbers I like to see. If you are going to be a competitive fencer you need to fence more.
So moving into the next season, the 2013/2014 season,
Lets increase our attendance, Lets stay at practice a little longer, Lets enter more local and regional competitions, Lets do foot work at home, Lets do other forms of cross training to get in better condition, Lets work on new moves to add to our game, Lets work on the faults we have, ie I tell you 3 or 4 times a night, shoulders sideways, bend that back leg, arm out first these type of things.
USFA Membership
2013/2014 Season starts August 1, 2013 so it is time to renew our USFA membership. Remember USFA membership is required for insurance purposes. There is the 5 dollar membership for non-competitive members and the higher one for competitive members. Parents if you are signing your child up for a competitive membership, please think about adding 10 dollars more so that you get voting rights. Under 18 years old the fencer cannot vote, but the parent can vote if you pay the extra 10 dollars. To register for t the new season, visit

We are all set to go with our experiment. We will begin Saturday August 3 at 930 am. The Bucaneer group will meet Monday, Wednesday at 430 pm and Saturdays at 930 am. Like fencing at HoF you are free to come to all or one practice a week. For the month of August this will be FREE to our HoF family. If the experiment is a success then we will institute the Bucanner group into our training regiment. Cost come September will be announced if we decide to continue, but rest assured you will be impressed. You will need to BUY your child a plastic mask and sword, we will order them, but we need to know who's in We need to know by July 22 if your child will participate so we can order equipment.
