Important information about the new fencing season
This will be a big email, but read carefully because it contains important information for everyone! As you may or may not know, the US fencing season begins and ends in midsummer. Starting August 1st, it will officially be the 2014/15 fencing season. We ended the 2013/14 season succesfully, with 4 medals at the National Championships. Hopefully 2014/15 will be even bigger and better for HoF! Check the headings below for some important info about what the new season means for you.
Hooked on Fencing is always a contender on the National stage--this year was no different, as our fencers won some glory for themselves and for the club, with 4 national medals!Congratulations to:
Andrew Pidhorodeckyj Division III 2nd Place
Harry Kimatian Y12 6th Place
Meghan O'Reilly Cadet 6th Place
Andrew Pidhorodeckyj, Division II NATIONAL CHAMPION!
The Northern Ohio Division is currently holding elections for Board positions during the upcoming year. Those of you who hold competitive memberships, or who registered as supporting members to vote earlier this year (you know who you are), you should have recieved an email about the NOD election. Make sure you follow the link and vote for our own Jim Fazekas as chairman! If you have not received the email, contact Kelly Bowen at [email protected] and let her know.
By August 1st, all club members are required to renew their memberships to the United States Fencing Association (USFA). There are two membership options, competitive and non-competitive; you should consider which membership is right for you. The non-competitive membership costs $5, and simply covers USFA insurance. This is for those who only intend this year to fence and practice here at the club. The competitive membership is required for all those wishing to compete in USFA competitions this year, and will run you $70. If you're not sure which option is right for you, talk to one of us about it. The link to renew your membership can be found here.
New Age Categories
Also effective August 1st, all fencers will be considered one year older for competition purposes. Several of our fencers will enter the next age category as a result. We will be posting an updated chart at the club, so check what events you are eligible to fence. All fencers born in 2001 or earlier will become eligible to fence in open tournaments!
2014/15 Club Championships
This year's Club Championships will be starting fresh on August 1st and 3rd, with all points wiped clean. Who will be this year's champions? I want to see as many of our fencers as possible fencing in these events; that way, they will be as big as possible, and maybe even attract some visitors! Those of you have never fenced in our Club Championships before, it is a great event to have fun fencing and get more experience. Absolutely no prior competitive experience is required! Follow the link to sign up online (you can come without signing up online, but it makes things run more smoothly and lets us know how many to expect). If you are eligible to fence multiple events, you should! The cost for the August Championships is $10 no matter how many events you fence!
New Adult and Youth Classes
On August 9th and 10th we will be starting new Adult and Youth Beginner Classes! So far, signups are low; only you can change that! Spread the word to friends, relatives, coworkers, that random person in line next to you waiting for coffee, whoever! Our members are our best advertising. The Youth class will be on Saturdays from 9-10am, and the Adult class on Sundays from 10-11:30am. You can also share the classes on facebook!
Looking for another way to support the club? Choose Hooked on Fencing as your supporting organization, and Amazon Smile will donate a small percentage to HoF every time you shop! Just remember to make purchases through Amazon Smile!
I know that was a lot of information to digest--let us know if you have any questions regarding any of this information!
Have a good week,
