Closed on Labor Day
Hooked on Fencing will be closed THIS Monday (9/5) as a result of Labor Day. Enjoy the long weekend, and we'll see everyone after the break!
Beginner Classes
Don't forget to spread the word about our Youth Beginner Class , which starts on Saturday, 9/17! This is how we share the sport with new, prospective fencers! At the moment, we're also offering a friends and family discount for our youth beginner classes. This is open to all family members of our fencers, friends, and anyone else you share it with. Youth/Unrated Tournament on 9/24
Fencers--sign up for our first home tournament of the year on Saturday, September 24! This event is open to fencers age 12-14, as well as all fencers 13+ without a competitive rating. This is the fun next step for so many of our fencers! However, we have been doing a bad job of representing the club. For frame of reference, we have 35+ members who are eligible for this tournament. The last time we hosted a similar event, only 2 or 3 attended. There were more competitors present from other local clubs, most of whom were LESS experienced than our members who sat out. This is a bad look for our club, but more importantly, it means many of our fencers are missing out on some of the best and most fun parts of fencing!!! I would strongly encourage fencers to sign up for this event, and while you're at it, look at the rest of our tournaments (on the left-hand side of this email) and sign up in advance!
Upcoming Regional Events
There are two regional events fast approaching; the Remenyik ROC & RJCC , and the Escrime D'Halloween RYC/RJCC . The first of these, the Remenyik, has competitive Cadet, Junior, and Div IA events. This one is great for our more competitive fencers up for a bit of travel; it takes place the weekend of October 1-2 in Evanston, Illinois, but you have to register by September 17th. The Escrime D'Halloween is more local; it will be held in Twinsburg the weekend of October 15-16, and features Youth, Cadet, and Junior events. Registration for this event ends on September 23rd, so don't wait!
