Share our Youth Beginner Class - starting 10/26!
Club Championships Weekend
Our first Club Championships of the season will be held this weekend! The open event is on Saturday, and the Junior/Cadet/Youth events are on Sunday. If you're not familiar with our Club Championship events, here's the scoop: throughout the year, we hold four of these in-house tournaments, and the fencer who does the best in each age category after all four events gets an equipment gift card and their name on a banner at the club! However, the bigger goal of these events is to provide a low-pressure tournament introduction to fencers who are just entering the competitive scene. The Club Championships follow tournament rules, but don't require full tournament equipment, a competitive membership, or travel. Therefore, this event is open to any and all of our fencers! Escrime D'Halloween
The Escrime D'Halloween RYC and RCC is an absolute must for our competitive youth fencers! Not only is it a chance to earn Regional points (which are one of the qualifying paths for Nationals) but more importantly, it's an opportunity to compete against fencers from other clubs. The event will be held on Saturday, October 19th at the Independence Fieldhouse. Read more info and sign up here . Register by October 4th (tomorrow!!!) to avoid a $15 late fee!
I would absolutely recommend this tournament to first-time competitors. If you're a Youth fencer (14 and under) who has fenced for a year or longer, send us an email or talk to us at the club about competing! These events are a lot of fun, and just might be the next step in your fencing journey!
Tuesday Night Training
The Fall session of Tuesday Night Training will begin on October 22 and run for 8 weeks (ending December 10). These practices are more intense and more structured than normal practices, and are available to fencers with competitive memberships age 12 and above. This time, the focus will be on building the stamina to fence at a high level for an entire tournament. With plenty of big tournaments on the horizon, the extra intensity of Tuesday Night Training is a great way to prepare!
These practices will take place from 6:30 to 8:30pm on Tuesday evenings, and will involve a mix of conditioning, footwork, and competitive fencing. Fencers should plan to be there for the duration of the practice. The cost for this session is $100. You can sign up at the club, or online by following this link .
Cedar Point Trip
Our annual Cedar Point trip will take place during Halloweekends on October 26! All HoF members and families are welcome to join us at Cedar Point. You can either meet us at the park, or meet at HoF at 11:00am, and leave as a group by 11:15. Fencers 13 and up can be dropped off at the club to carpool. Younger fencers should plan to come to Cedar Point with parents. There will be a sign-up sheet at HoF for those wishing to catch a ride. If any parents are willing to attend/provide transportation, you can sign up there as well! As a result of the Cedar Point trip, HoF will close at 11:00am on Saturday, October 26th!
Attendees can purchase their Cedar Point tickets individually. There is still an ongoing deal for the 2020 Gold Pass , which provides access to the park for the remainder of 2019 and all of 2020, and includes free parking. Get your ticket soon and save!
Youth Beginner Class
Hooked on Fencing is on a never-ending mission to share the sport of fencing with as many people as possible! You can help, by spreading the word about our Youth Beginner Class, which begins on October 26, and is open to new fencers age 9-12. The class will run for six weeks (on Saturday mornings) and give students a great introduction to the sport. You can point prospective new fencers to this link ! And, speaking of sharing the sport with new fencers...
Bring-a-Friend Tournament
On Sunday, November 17, Hooked on Fencing is bringing back a favorite tradition--the Bring-a-Friend Tournament! Here's how it works: each of our participating fencers will invite a non-fencing friend to the event. Then, we'll go over some basic fencing footwork and rules before each fencer has the chance to work with their friend one-on-one. Finally, the beginners will all compete in a mini-tournament--they get to try out fencing, and you get to compete as their coach! Choose a friend and hone your coaching skills!
The Bring-a-Friend Tournament will be divided into two different age categories: 9-12, and 13 and Up. The 13 and Up group will start at 1:00pm on Sunday, November 17th, and the 9-12 age group will start at 4:00pm. There will be a sign-up sheet the club. Let's make it a fun event!
