Club Updates and Referee Webinar

This is an archived newsletter from May 4, 2020. Dates, prices and deadlines in it have passed — see current classes or the schedule.

Hope everyone is doing well and staying healthy! We are anxious to re-open our doors, but, as per the governor's orders as of May 1, it seems we'll have to wait a bit longer. We are planning to open as soon as we can safely and legally do so, even if that means some temporary changes to our schedule/policies. We will provide more details as soon as we are able to schedule lessons, practices, and other events.

Getting through this period is likely the toughest challenge HoF has ever faced, but your support has meant the world to us. We hope to see everyone lunging and drilling and sword-fighting soon, and we're planning to offer plenty of additional fencing opportunities as soon as we're able to do so.

In the meantime, here's another opportunity for our fencers (and parents!) to take advantage of while at home...

Referee Webinar

On Saturday, May 16, there will be an online referee seminar open to interested fencers and/or parents. This is an official course (the likes of which can qualify you to referee at USFA tournaments) and will begin at 9:30am on May 16. If you've ever wanted to referee a tournament, this course, along with an online exam and in-person observation, is how to make it happen. Not a bad way to improve your fencing know-how and make some money on the side! Even if you don't intend to referee, or are unsure, there's plenty of valuable information on offer for fencers and spectators alike! The cost of the webinar is $35, HOWEVER, our division (Northern Ohio Division) is reimbursing its members the cost of the written exam ($25 value) once you pass the written general part and one weapon specific (epee, foil or saber). That means you could start the referee process for only $10 after reimbursement!
