Chipotle Fundraiser + National Results

National Results

Nationals have ended, and our fencers represented themselves well on the strip. This was the biggest fencing event ever, but several of our fencers achieved top 32 and top 16 finishes in very competitive fields. Lauren McCoy medaled in Vet40 Women's Epee, earning a bronze medal! Elena Miinea finished 9th in DivII Women's Epee! Just as importantly, all of our fencers bolstered their tournament experience and learned valuable lessons that will hopefully provide motivation for the next season. Chipotle Fundraiser

Next Wednesday, July 17th, we are participating in a Chipotle fundraiser for the club! It's pretty simple--if enough people grab burritos and bowls from the North Royalton Chipotle at 5702 Royalton Rd from 4-8pm, we get a chunk of the profit! You can help us out by eating Chipotle yourself, or sharing this fundraiser online and with friends! You can find more details right here . Summer Cookout

Our annual Summer cookout will be Monday, July 29th! This is a chance for all members of the club to come together, celebrate the past season, send off our college fencers, and have a great time! All fencers, family members, and friends are welcome to attend. The cookout will start at 6pm on July 29th and take the place of regular practice that day. See you all there!

Fencing Across America

On Sunday, July 28th, Tuesday, July 30th, and Friday, August 2nd, Hooked on Fencing is participating in a series of fencing demonstrations at Crocker Park, in conjunction with the 2024 Summer Olympics! Fencing is an original Olympic sport, and this is a great chance to interact with potential fencers, share the sport, and help the club gain new members! We are signed up for two timeslots on each of the aforementioned days--2-4:30pm, and 4:30-7pm, and we're hoping to involve as many of our fencers as possible. This will be a fairly casual event; ideally, there will be a few fencers fencing during each timeslot, as well as a few people on hand to interact with interested onlookers. No expertise needed to participate, just enthusiasm! There will be a sign-up at the club for those interested in participating. Sign up and help us out!

New Fencing Season

The new fencing season starts on August 1st! With the new season comes new opportunities, new tournaments, and a few changes for everyone. Two important notes--age groups advance on August 1st, so some of our fencers will begin to come at later practice times, or be eligible for new tournament categories. Any fencer who will be 13 or older on January 1st, 2025 will now (as of August 1st) be eligible for open tournament categories, including unrated, open, Div II, and Div III categories! It also means ALL of our members must renew their USA Fencing membership, which you can do right here . If you plan to compete this season, you will need a Competitive membership, although an Access membership will allow you to take part in club practice and compete in local events. Don't wait; all fencers MUST have an active USA Fencing membership in order to be eligible to fence beginning August 1st!
