Bring-a-Friend Tournament
Next Sunday (the 17th) we are hosting the Bring-a-Friend Tournament! This event should be a lot of fun, as you will go head-to-head with other fencers at the club... as a coach! We are trying to get a head count for this event so please sign up at the club or email us by this Thursday if you plan to attend! The open event (13 and up) will be at 1:00pm and the Youth event (9-12) will be at 4:00pm. There will be prizes for both coaches and guest fencers!
IMPORTANT NOTE: Guest fencers will require a waiver to participate, and those under 18 will require a parent's signature. Please print this waiver in advance!!!
Epee Raffle
Out annual Epee Raffle is officially underway! Between now and our Christmas Party (which will take place on Wednesday, December 18th) you can purchase raffle tickets for $5 each. The winner will recieve a brand-new epee! Tickets can be purchased at the the club or online here .
Upcoming Tournaments
The rest of this email will contain information about upcoming tournaments. There are so many great opportunities to compete against a wide variety of opponents... it's important that competitive fencers take it upon themselves to seek out and plan tournaments. There are great resources like askFRED and USFencing , and you can find tournaments on your own that are right for you. However, here is a brief list of recommended tournaments in the coming months.
December 7 - Winter Warlock RYC
This is not the next tournament chronologically, but I've included it here because the deadline to register is tomorrow. This event is a Regional Youth Circuit (RYC) event. That means it includes a wider pool of fencers, and fencers can earn points by competing. Points are one of the ways to qualify for national tournaments, and also determine regional championships at the end of the season. This is also just a good event for Y10, Y12, and Y14 fencers, because Youth events do not occur especially often. You can read more and sign up at this link .
January 3-6 - Charlotte North American Cup
The January North American Cup is another tournament with a fast-approaching registration deadline. This NAC features Division I, Junior, and Senior Team. The deadline to register is November 20th. This tournament is a tough test for our most competitive fencers, and is recommended for teenage fencers rated 'C' or above.
November 24 - Turkey Stab Mixed Open
Oberlin College is hosting an open tournament on November 24th. Every competitive fencer, age 13 and up, should be involved in this event. Open events in our own backyard are a prime opportunity and should not be missed.
December 1 - HoF's 'C' and Under
We are hosting a 'C' and Under on Sunday, December 1st. Turnout at our own events has been pitifully low, and sometimes in recent memory, we've had more outside fencers in attendance than HoF members. This makes us a bad host. Let's change that. If you are eligible to fence in a 'C' and Under, sign up today and represent the club on our home turf.
December 8 - Northern Ohio Junior Olympic Qualifiers
The Junior Olympic Qualifiers will be held on Sunday, December 8th, in Lakewood. This is one the prime ways to qualify for the Junior Olympics , which will take place February 14-17, in Columbus. This is a fantastic opportunity for all fencers age 13-19. Sign up now if you want to compete in the JOs next February!
December 14-15 - Club Championships II
The second event of our Club Championship circuit will be the weekend of December 14-15. This is open to ALL club members, regardless of competitive membership. Register and find all the info here .
