Youth 11 and 13 Program

On Saturday January 17, 2009 Hooked on Fencing will begin its  age  9 - Y11 and Y13 fencing programs.  These programs for our young fencers is design to teach the skills and techniques of modern fencing while having the greatest amount of fun as possible.

The programs are designed much like HoF's Club Model.  The youth program will meet on two separate days and times.  As time goes on and new fencers want to join, they will be given (by appointment) individual lessons for a few weeks then join their  age group.

HoF will have two Youth programs. The  Y11 program is defined as fencers Age 9 and up to but not yet 11 years old.

Saturdays from 9am - 11am

Wednesdays from 5pm - 630pm

The other group which is defined as our Y13 group. Is for fencers age 11 and still under age 13.

Saturdays from 11am -1pm,

Thursday from 5pm - 630pm.

When a fencer turns 11 he or she moves into the Y13 group.  When a fencer turns 13 he or she will join the club during regular club hours.

Some FAQ's

1) Attendance.  These fencing programs are on going. Except for holidays we will meet every week.  Your fencer may come once or twice a week. Saturday one week and the weekday the next. Your fencer may miss a week here and there.  How often and when your fencer wants to come is totally up to the family.

2) CostThe cost a fencing can be very high.  It is not uncommon for parents to pay over two hundred dollars a month for their child's fencing.  Hooked on Fencing is a 501(3)c organization. We keep our rates low and rely on volunteers and fund raising from time to time to get by.    The cost for HoF youth programs is the same as the youth membership in the club.  There are 2 ways in which you can join.  The first is our current cash/check rate.  This rate is subject to price increases.  The second is what we call our APM rate.  The the Automatic Payment Method  automatically charges your credit card every month the same day each month.   IF YOU SIGN UP FOR THIS,    YOUR RATE WILL NEVER INCREASE.  As long as you stay a member your rate is locked in. One year from now, 2, 4, 15 years from now whatever rate was the going rate when you joined is the rate you will keep.  However, if you stop your payment for 2 months then come back, you must re join and pay a higher rate if the rate has gone up in your absence.  Why not join now?? (link here to fees)

3) Equipment HoF will provide during the class hours equipment for the fencers use.

In Fencing you SHOULD have your own gear.  After 3 months a fencer should purchase their own mask, jacket and glove. After 6 months a fencer should be thinking about getting their own Epee and body cord as well.

EQUIPMENT SPECIAL  To help fencers get started HoF is offering this special deal.

If your fencer buys a mask and Jacket (about 110 $)   When they join ,  HoF will deduct the first months dues from the cost of the equipment.

4) Competitions.  Fencing is an Olympic Sport.  Each year American fencers are taking home more and more International Medals.   HoF has fencers that are recreational fencers, local competitive members, regional and National level fencers as well as International level fencers.  While HoF encourages competitive fencing and we are proud of the results that HoF members have obtained.  Our mission is our first objective.  Our youth program is designed to teach fencing and create a love and passion for the sport.

Our Y11 and Y13 fencers will not be steered into competitions.  Our youth fencers will not be put into situations that will be detrimental to their development as fencers.  Fencing is a life long sport and we hope that many of these young fencers will fence for life.
